With all the treasures and delights of southern France either a short or a long drive away, we're not going to start listing them here, just to note that the places we go back to again and again from Chateau de Mappe include:

L'abbaye du Thoronet

A former Cisterian abbey built between 1160 and 1230

Tourtour

Dubbed 'the village in the sky', with amazing views over Provence

Cotignac

Its characterful old quarter was built in the 16th and 17th centuries

Entrecasteaux

This medieval town at the bottom of a valley was built around an imposing 16th century castle

Les Gorges de Verdon

The area around the deepest gorge in France contains numerous hiking trails and opportunities for observing eagles and other birds
